Nanomedicine has a huge potential to bring benefits in prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, with increased socio-economic benefits. Since most of the future applications of therapeutic nanoparticles (NPs) are based on intravenous/oral administration, experiments on their interaction with human blood components are of extreme importance. In this context, the knowledge of the degree to which damage on red blood cells following exposure to silver nanoparticles contributes to the overall toxicity of various NPs is still highly needed. The present paper unprecedentedly assesses the hemolytic impact of biomedical nanoparticles on red blood cells (RBCs). Keywords— cytotoxicity, hemolysis, nanoparticles, erythrocyte, therapy
